BEACH AND SWIMMING
Located less than a mile from Carnmore is the strand, or local beach. At high tide, the waters meet the rocky shore and at low tide the beach is more than 150 yards wide. The water is always refreshing. At the northern end of the strand is the channel, a tidal river that is fun to play in. Children may enjoy collecting rocks at the beach and painting them back at the house (please be careful with the paints, though.)
THE KILLARY
Carnmore is located about 5 miles from the Killary, Ireland's only fjord. The Killary offers opportunities for adventurous souls who wish to experience the outdoors, climb gorges, kayak in the fjord, or speed about the local islands on a boat. Another marvelous way to learn about the region's history is to sightsee on the Connemara Lady, a boat that cruises the fjord.
HILL WALKING
It is traditional in Ireland to have free passage across farmers' lands (as long as you do not distrub the sheep or cows). The Twelve Bens offer a dazzling assortment of hillwalking with local, professional guides. The walks can be technically challenging or merely a stroll with an informative companion.
ANGLING
Renowned world-wide for its vast number of loughs and rivers, Connemara offers angling in very scenic countryside. The famous Ballynahinch and Owenmore system, Lough Inagh fishery, Screeb and Costello are all within 30 minmutes of Carnmore.
CONNEMARA NATIONAL PARK
For nature lovers, the Connemara National Park offers rolling hills, waterfalls, guided nature tours art classes for children, and splendid views of the Atlantic Ocean. The Park is just outside Letterfrack.
SCUBA DIVING
Scuba diving in the West of Ireland!? ... we are not kidding. Because of its very clean water, there are several scuba diving shops within a few miles of Carnmore. For experienced divers, you can even try to catch a dinner of small lobsters!
